How it works

The newer consoles get the headlines, but the classics are half of what lands on our bench some weeks. We take in the Nintendo line going back: Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance; the Nintendo DS family, 3DS included; the NES and Super Nintendo; Nintendo 64; and GameCube. The common retro faults are familiar ones - power problems, dim or dead screens, game saves that disappear, and cartridge slots that stop reading games. We clean, test, and diagnose first, then quote the actual fault. On systems this old, parts vary by model, so text us which one you have and we will confirm before you make the drive.

Questions about this repair

Answered the way we would answer you standing at the counter.

Do you really repair Game Boys?

Yes - Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance are regulars here. Screens, save batteries, power problems, and buttons that stick are the usual list. Text us which model you have and what it is doing, and we will confirm before you drive over.

My NES or Super Nintendo won't read games anymore.

That is the classic cartridge-slot problem: years of use wear and dirty the connector the game slides into. Sometimes a deep cleaning brings reading back; sometimes the slot itself needs work. Diagnosis tells us which, and the quote follows the real cause.

My game won't hold a save anymore. Is that fixable?

Usually, yes. Older game cartridges keep their saves on a small battery inside the cartridge, and when that battery dies, the saves go with it. Replacing the cartridge battery is a common job - bring the game in along with the console.

Can you still get parts for systems this old?

For the common faults, usually - screens, batteries, and cartridge-slot parts are still around for most of the Nintendo line. When a part truly cannot be sourced, we say so after the diagnosis, and there is no charge for the look.

Will you buy retro systems too, or only repair them?

Both. Game Boy through GameCube are on our buy list, working or not. One visit gets you a cash offer and, if you want it, the repair quote - take whichever number wins.
